Media coverage of CES 2024 exhibitors has already exploded. Before the show even began, the most discussed topics were artificial intelligence, entertainment and office hardware, plus gaming and e-sports. Brands are leveraging the power of CES to go viral, with advances in display technology, smart home and assistive tech, plus unexpected partnerships and solutions for enterprise.

Attendees from across the globe travel to CES to do business efficiently and discover what’s next in tech. During CTA’s State of the Industry Address on Tuesday morning, Shapiro recognized the 100^th anniversary of CTA, owner and producer of CES, and underscored the importance of technology that can enhance human capabilities to address issues like access to clean air and water, food, healthcare and technology. Kinsey Fabrizio, CTA Sr. VP, CES and membership, joined Shapiro on stage to provide updates on trends and sessions at the show.

Led by civil society, the campaign is supported by the United Nations through the Secretary General’s UNiTE by 2030 to End Violence against Women initiative.

The global theme of this year’s 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence is “UNITE! Invest to prevent violence against women and girls” which emphasizes the need for funding prevention strategies to proactively stop gender-based violence.

The theme further aligns with the 2024 priority theme of the Commission on the Status of Women, which is “Accelerating Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women and Girls” by addressing poverty, strengthening institutions, and incorporating a gender perspective into financing.

The 16 Days campaign will support and amplify commitments to prevent violence against women and catalyze global advocacy efforts including through Generation Equality and the Action Coalition on Gender-Based Violence.

Violence against women and girls remains the most pervasive human rights violation around the world. Some 736 million women — almost one in three — have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their lives.

More than four in five women and girls (86 per cent) are living in countries without robust legal protection, or in countries for which data are not readily available.

No country is within reach of eradicating intimate partner violence and only a quarter of countries have systems to track and make budgetary allocations for gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Despite the scale of the problem and these worrying trends, financial commitments to violence prevention remain limited. Few national governments have funded transformative gender-based violence prevention policies or committed significant budget allocations toward ending violence against women. Investing in preventing violence against women and girls is crucial to achieving gender equality by 2030, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

This year´s 16 Days campaign calls upon all UNITE networks, civil society and women’s rights organizations, organizations working with men and boys, the UN system, the Generation Equality Action Coalitions, government partners, human rights defenders, schools, universities, private sector, sports clubs and associations and individuals to step up and support different prevention strategies to stop violence from occurring in the first place.

Every effort invested in preventing violence against women is a step towards a safer, more equal, and prosperous world.

Over 600 television professionals from over 60 countries convene annually in New York City for the International Emmy® World Television Festival. Traditionally the Festival takes place the weekend before the International Emmy® Awards and is the only place where one can watch all the nominated programs, meet the creators, and attend a variety of special events with key members of the global television community.

It was a big night for female artists at the 24th Latin Grammys ceremony — the first held outside the U.S.

“Bienvenidos a España, bienvenidos a Sevilla!” actor and presenter Antonio Banderas said in his opening speech, as he welcomed the audience to Spain.

Shakira, who took home awards for song of the year, best urban/fusion performance and best pop song for her collaborations with Argentinian DJ and record producer Bizarrap and fellow Colombian Karol G — incorporated her two young sons into her first performance of “Acróstico.” The Colombian superstar later returned to the stage for a medley of her hits including “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” accompanied by her signature dance moves.

“I want to dedicate this award to my sons … because I promised them that I would be happy,” Shakira said while accepting the award for song of the year.

Karol G won two coveted awards: best album of the year and best urban music album for “Mañana será bonito.” Mexican singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade took home record of the year for “De Todas Las Flores.”

Viewers were watching closely for the top four categories: record of the year, album of the year, song of the year and best new artist. Nominees in those categories included Shakira, Peso Pluma, GALE, Maluma and Alejandro Sanz, who performed at the event. Other nominees in those top categories included Christina Aguilera, Bad Bunny, Natalia Lafourcade, Karol G, Juanes, Carlos Vives and Marc Anthony.

The theme of this year’s UN Day Concert reinforces Secretary-General António Guterres’s call for “faster, bolder climate action,” and is intended to galvanize world leaders ahead of the COP28 climate conference in Dubai later in the year, and the 2024 International Conference on Small Island Developing States in Antigua and Barbuda.
